PrestaShop CMS – what is it, history of creation

PrestaShop is an open-source CMS. It is designed to create websites that provide e-commerce services on the Internet.

The software is developed based on the Symfony framework, written in the PHP programming language. Free MySQL DBMS is used to provide functionality and data storage.

The Twig open-source compiling template engine is used, which is also written in the PHP programming language.

CMS PrestaShop is designed for creating websites for small and medium businesses. More than 300 functions in its arsenal allow you to create an online store with the required functionality quickly.

In 2010 and 2011, CMS PrestaShop has named the best open-source software for creating online stores. This event was awarded the Best Open-source Business Application award.

PrestaShop was founded in August 2007 by Igor Schlumberger and Bruno Lévêque.

PrestaShop supports multilingualism. The program interface is translated into more than 60 languages. An essential role in the development of the project is played by a large community – PrestaShop Community, which, according to various estimates, has about 500 thousand people.

These circumstances have positively influenced the prevalence of CMS. Today, there are more than 140 thousand online stores that are built based on PrestaShop. PrestaShop is headquartered in Paris and Miami. The design and development team numbers about 100 people.

As noted above, PrestaShop is free and open-source software available for download by anyone. This circumstance contributes to the formation of ways to monetize and generate income for the project development team.

To date, there are at least two known ways of receiving funds for the PrestaShop development team:
